About Me
I am a Functional Movement Specialist and Personal Trainer that specializes in motivating people to discover a lifestyle of healthy living without pain, movement restrictions and moving with overall confidence.
I was an IFPA, NGA Pro Figure Bodybuilder and USBF Pro-Qualified Bodybuilder. Fitness has always played a large role in my life beginning with a competitive scholastic career during which I was a participant in NYS's Empire State Games. It was during those years in my childhood that I discovered the importance of self-motivation and setting realistic goals. Two skills that I firmly believes can help not only professional and amateur athletes achieve success, but anyone who is trying to improve his or her quality of life with proper exercise and nutrition.
At LenoxFit, I offer several weekly group classes that focus on the foundation of helping a participant gain strength, mobility, agility and improved cardiovascular health. My strength as a personal trainer with a niche in pain management and rehab allow me to offer modifications for participants who have limitations during my classes. With my personal clients, I always begin a relationship with a movement screen to help me make programming decisions with precision and purpose. Every client’s program is unique to that person’s individual needs and goals, taking into account a pace that will be most comfortable to encourage and motivate you.
Whether you are brand new to fitness, working through an injury, or trying to the reach for the next level, I will get you there by taking the guesswork out of training and customizing your program based on your needs, goals, and desires. I am excited to share my passion for healthy living with you today to help you make your fitness goals a reality!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am certified through the National Academy of Sports Medicine as well as the Functional Movement System and Silver Sneakers. I am also a Certified Spin Instructor. Personally, I held a Pro-Card in two different Bodybuilding Federations (including IFPA) and was Pro-Qualified in a third.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I began my professional life in the field of Children's Book's as an author and illustrator, but due to an unexpected life-changing event, I chose to leave that career and entered the health and fitness world while training for a bodybuilding competition. My relationship with my trainer made such an impact on my life that I decided the career of a personal trainer would fulfill my lifelong passion for health and fitness.
What is your typical process for working with a new client?
I always begin with a conversation to discuss what the client is interested in focusing on during his or her program and to review any injuries or general concerns. Then during the first session I will perform a movement screen that will help me establish the foundation of the workout program for that particular client. We will also talk about scheduling for both the days when we are working together and what will be expected from each party on the days when we are apart.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with a full spectrum of clients from 16 year old athletes to a 97 year old with severe COPD.
Describe a recent client goal you are most proud of. How long did it take?
I truly enjoy working with any client that finally reaches a goal no matter how big it is or how long it takes to reach that goal. Seeing a client loose 40 pounds is just as satisfying as seeing a client finally being able to stand on one foot for 20 secs without falling over!
What advice would you give a client looking to hire a personal trainer?
One of the most important things beyond the credentials is making sure that you have a good rapport with your client. If you can't communicate together the program will never succeed. Personal training is indeed a personal experience and for many an emotional one, so being able to work together is a must.
What questions should clients think through before talking to professionals about their goals?
I believe it is important for a trainer to interview the client before the first session. So make sure to ask a prospective trainer what can be expected before the first session. Also, it is called personal training for a reason! Be sure to ask if each program is custom to every client.
